PulseTrace vs Better Stack

An observability suite with on-call built in, versus a focused external-monitoring platform.

Better Stack bundles uptime monitoring with logs, tracing, error tracking and a full incident-response product (on-call schedules, escalations, phone alerts). PulseTrace is narrower and deeper on the external surface: what your endpoints, certificates and domains look like from outside, and what changed.

Where Better Stack is better

  • Incident response: on-call schedules, escalation policies and unlimited phone/SMS alerts are built in — PulseTrace hands paging to PagerDuty, Opsgenie, incident.io or Rootly.
  • Browser transactions with Playwright, screenshots and error logs captured on failure.
  • One vendor for logs, traces and errors if you want an all-in-one observability bill.

Where PulseTrace is better

  • Security and domain posture graded on every check — TLS configuration, headers, cookies, CORS, RDAP, DNSSEC, email authentication — not only expiry.
  • Change intelligence and anomaly baselines: DNS, TLS, header, redirect and content changes as first-class events with before/after, correlated across monitors on Pro.
  • Flat per-organization pricing: PulseTrace Team is $29 for the organization with 5 seats, not per responder.
  • 15-second checks on Pro, 12 monitor types including gRPC, WebSocket, traceroute and multi-step API journeys, and an MCP server for AI agents.

Choose Better Stack if…

you want on-call scheduling and phone alerts in the same product, browser-level transaction tests, or logs and traces from one vendor.

Choose PulseTrace if…

your risk is on the outside — certificates, DNS, domains, headers — and you want to know what changed; you already have (or don't need) an on-call tool; or you want flat organization pricing.

Questions about switching

Can PulseTrace page my on-call engineer?
Through PagerDuty or Opsgenie (with auto-resolve), incident.io or Rootly — PulseTrace opens and closes the incident there; the on-call rotation lives in that tool.
Does PulseTrace do logs or tracing?
No — it is external monitoring and change intelligence. It pairs well with a logging product rather than replacing one.
