PulseTrace vs UptimeRobot

The free-tier classic versus uptime plus change intelligence.

UptimeRobot is the tool most teams start with: a generous free tier, a simple UI and a huge user base. PulseTrace covers the same uptime ground and adds what UptimeRobot doesn't try to — TLS and domain security grading, external change detection, incident management and an API-first, agent-ready surface.

Where UptimeRobot is better

  • A much larger free tier: 50 monitors versus PulseTrace's 10 (at 5-minute rather than 1-minute checks).
  • SMS and voice-call alerts, which PulseTrace does not offer natively — PulseTrace routes phone paging through PagerDuty or Opsgenie.
  • A mobile app and a very large community; if you want the simplest possible tool, it is simpler.

Where PulseTrace is better

  • Security posture: an A+–F grade for TLS configuration, certificate chain, revocation and security headers, plus a domain grade (RDAP, DNSSEC, SPF/DKIM/DMARC). UptimeRobot alerts on expiry only.
  • Change intelligence: every check fingerprints DNS, TLS, headers, redirects and content and opens a change event with before/after; anomaly baselines replace hand-set thresholds.
  • Faster checks earlier: 30 s on Team ($29) and 15 s on Pro, versus 60 s until UptimeRobot's Enterprise tier.
  • Incident management with acknowledge/assign/maintenance windows and native PagerDuty, Opsgenie, incident.io and Rootly sync; SLA reporting with error budgets; an MCP server for AI agents.

Choose UptimeRobot if…

you want the most free monitors possible, need SMS or voice alerts without an incident tool, or want a mobile app.

Choose PulseTrace if…

you need to know what changed — certificates, DNS, headers — not only whether it's up; you want incidents, SLA reports and an API/MCP surface; or you want 30-second checks under $30.

Questions about switching

Can I migrate my UptimeRobot monitors?
Yes — export your monitor list and create them through the REST API or the OpenAPI import; most teams re-create a few dozen monitors in under an hour.
Does PulseTrace have a free plan too?
Yes — 10 monitors on 1-minute checks with one status page, free forever, no card.
